15: Characterizing Surface Transport Barriers in the South China Sea
نویسنده
چکیده
The long term goal of this project is to advance the state of the art in mathematical methods for detecting key Lagrangian transport structures in velocity field data sets for spatially complex, timedependent, ocean surface flows. Such transport structures are typically not inherently obvious in snapshots of the Eulerian velocity field and require analysis methods with foundations in Lagrangian flow transport. Several such methods are currently being developed, and we seek to assess the utility of several of the leading methods.

Relationship between white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) loads and characterizations of water quality in Litopenaeus vannamei culture ponds during the tropical storm
An in-situ experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of tropical storm on the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) loads in Litopenaeus vannamei rearing ponds. White spot syndrome virus loads, heterotrophic bacteria, Vibrio and water quality (including temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, pH, NH4-N, and NO2-N) were continually monitored through one tropical storm. The WSSV loads d...

[1] In 2008–2009 the Makassar throughflow profile changed dramatically: the characteristic thermocline velocity maximum increased from 0.7 to 0.9 m/sec and shifted from 140 m to 70 m, amounting to a 47% increase in the transport of warmer water between 50 and 150 m during the boreal summer. HYCOM output indicates that ENSO induced change of the South China Sea (SCS) throughflow into the Indones...
متن کاملStatus of Rocks in the Law of the Sea with Relying on the South China Sea Arbitration Award
Abstract Islands and rocks are entitled different maritime zones in international law of the sea. Article 121(3) allocated to rocks has articulated briefly and without indicating any definitions or characters of this feature. Paragraph 3 provided two conditions for rocks in order to create exclusive economic zone and continental shelf zone. The South China Sea tribunal has interpreted this pa...
متن کاملKuroshio intrusion and the circulation in the South China Sea
[1] The Princeton Ocean Model is used to study the circulation in the South China Sea (SCS) and its seasonal transition. Kuroshio enters (leaves) the SCS through the southern (northern) portion of the Luzon Strait. The annually averaged net volume flux through the Luzon Strait is 2 Sv into the SCS with seasonal reversals. The inflow season is from May to January with the maximum intrusion of Ku...
متن کاملBiogeographical role of the Kuroshio Current in the amphibious mudskipper Periophthalmus modestus indicated by mitochondrial DNA data
Quaternary climatic cycles have influenced marine organisms' spatial distribution and population dynamics. This study aimed to elucidate the evolutionary influences of contemporary and glacial physical barriers on the population structure, demography and colonization history of the mudskipper (Periophthalmus modestus) based on a mitochondrial gene segment (ND5) from 131 individual fish sampled ...
